SEE WHAT THE PRESS SAYS ABOUT US!

This article appears in City Paper's CHOICE AWARDS '07.

"
*BEST FRINGE DANCE FIND*
This could easily have turned out to be just another so-so dance outfit trying to turn heads with a catchy name, but the PINK HAIR AFFAIR proved to be a very talented group of young dancers (most from UArts, and some Chris Cox hatchlings) who not only know how to create dances, they can pace and stage a show, too. They accomplished this while doing tech work and making costume changes behind a fluttering curtain tacked across the back of Susan Hess' downtown studio space. Its not where you are, its what you do. --Janet Anderson

Thank you City Paper!!

About Us

In April 2007, eight graduates of University of the Arts formed a dance collective: Pink Hair Affair. While they all wear rose-hued wigs, each director has a highly unique artistic vision, resulting in a repertory that is anything but monochromatic. The body of work by Pink Hair Affair directors can be humorous, emotional, formal, improvisational, and observational. The cross-pollination of ideas within this collective will forge a fresh vision of dance.

Speaking of SomeBody

September 14 @ 8pm, September 15 @ 2pm.

Did you hear about Pink Hair Affair's debut performances? Lauren Mathis, Rachel Slater, Christine Steigerwald and Anne MacGillivray Wilson present a night overflowing with athletic, enthralling explorations of subjects everyBody has experienced like nightmares, gender identity, race, shadow, flying in dreamland and the feeling of water like velvet on your skin...when you skinny dip on a late summer night under the moon.

Christine will delve into the human unconscious, exploring dreams, with multimedia by Drew Uthman. The halting rhythms of a madman at the piano ignites a fiery passion in Anne’s unlikely duet. Lauren will eloquently dive into a world of minimalism, her movements derived from yogic tradition and serenity. Rachel will expose the bizarre realm of nightmares, exploring the images the run rampant behind our closed eyes as we slumber.

Mind Fall

September 13, 15 @ 8pm.

Christina Gesualdi, Laura Jenkins, Jackie Koch, and Ashley Wood will launch a collection of breathtaking and jawdropping short dance works on the Fringe. {The pieces stem from a shared exploration of what happens when an idea pops into a choreographer's head like a cartoon thought bubble, or resounds in her brain like a shrieking ambulance siren, or drips into her consciousnuess like water from a leaky faucet.}

Playfullness and good times will surely ensue with Jackie's trio of girls dancing in barrels (literally!). Laura will present an athletic trio based around a triangular prop created by designer Derik Spence. Ashley's conceptual duet will be a reflection of the ideas of time travel and alternate universes. Christina's trio will patiently focus the eye on the beauty and sensitivity behind the articulation of each dancer's moving body.
